Dosing hydrogen peroxide

What is hydrogen peroxide?

Coupling 2 hydrogen atoms and 2 oxygen atoms creates hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). These 2 atoms can be found just about anywhere in the world. However, high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide do not occur in nature; they are made in factories. Gas formation of hydrogen peroxide is caused by photochemistry, a chemical reaction under the influence of (sun) light. This is an important consideration when dosing this liquid.

Dispense hydrogen peroxide for disinfection.

Hydrogen peroxide is an excellent disinfectant and is used to disinfect water, for example. It is also widely used in horticulture and animal husbandry. It is a versatile product. Besides disinfecting, the use of hydrogen peroxide remedies scale and corrosion. It is widely used because it reacts to natural substances; water and oxygen. This leaves little to no harmful substances behind. H2O2 is a strong oxidator.
Hydrogen peroxide is used in several countries to disinfect water supplies, among other things.

There are a number of concerns with this substance:

      • Hydrogen peroxide can create explosion hazards in high concentrations!

      • It decomposes into water and oxygen, which can lower its concentration.

Dosing hydrogen peroxide with a dosing pump

When you want to dose H2O2 safely, a dosing pump is a good choice. The right configuration of materials is important here. It is also important to choose a pump with good automatic venting. As H2O2 forms gas bubbles, it can cause them to accumulate in the pump head and you have to vent the pump every time. With the right dosing pump, that problem is a thing of the past.

    Dosing percentage of hydrogen peroxide

When H202 is used as a disinfectant, it is often convenient to add a certain amount to a water stream. This can, of course, be done manually. However, if the flow does fluctuate, too little or too much is quickly dosed. This can incur additional costs or affect quality.

With a metering pump i.cm. a water meter with pulse generator, it is possible to obtain an 1%-like solution, for example.
