For private swimming pools often use is made of a Chlorine control based on Redox (ORP). This is a relatively inexpensive and excellent arrangement that keeps the water in good quality. It is important, or perhaps even more important, to also regulate the pH automatically. This prevents chlorine smell and poor disinfection of the water.

For public swimming pools it is mandatory to send to free chlorine. That's a more expensive, but much more precise arrangement.
